If you seek class and demand durability, this bespoke full grain cowhide leather checkbook cover with soft, supple pigskin lining promises to satisfy. Hand stitched with a classic saddle stitch that will endure the test of time. Additionally only the finest braided, waxed polyester thread is selected. Only full grain leather is hand selected. The back is lined with pigskin for aesthetic appeal and supplemental strength. This ensures that you get the best strength and character possible. This item will certainly develop a patina we leather lovers appreciate. It will inspire conversation for years. Leather - Only full grain cowhide leather is hand selected. It is hand cut from full grain leather. This is 2/3 oz. full grain leather (1.0 to 1.5 mm thick). Genuine or bonded leather will not ever be used. Those leathers do not pass quality standards for the true leather connoisseur. This item is hand stitched and hand finished to a beautiful, mellow glow. And since full grain leather is used you are rewarded with the remarkable character and story of that piece of leather. The scratches, marks, brands and tattoos are undisturbed to provoke conversation and inspire appreciation. Exceptional markings are exclusive to my Private Stock and are individually listed for your consideration of purchase since they are sensational. Each piece is hand treated with a regimen of creams and waxes in multiple layers with hand buffing between each layer of protection. Lining – This item’s back is lined with full grain natural pigskin. Pigskin's durability and tinsel strength are its driving features. Beauty is the bonus. It is soft and supple. Saddle Stitch - No stitch is superior to the saddle stitch. A machine, locking stitch, will pale in comparison. Once there is thread failure with a machine stitch, the whole stitch line will certainly unravel. We have all experienced this with clothing. You pull on one tiny thread and you pull two feet out. In the unlikely event this high tinsel polyester thread tears or fails, it will only fail in that specific spot. It will not unravel as there are two passing threads in each and every stitch hole, something a machine cannot duplicate. In high stress areas, added stitches are used and wrapped. Also at the end of a stitch run an added backstitch is used to make certain the thread stays where it was intended. There are approximately 160 stitches on this item. Each stitch hole is pierced by hand with a diamond shaped awl for stitch integrity. This awl is specifically designed to delicately open the hole without cutting it to allow the leather to shrink back around the stitch for added strength and durability. The awl’s shape leaves a hole that brings the stitch line together for appeal. After the stitching is complete the stitch is set into the leather by tapping with a cobbler's hammer. This anchors the stitch and nestles it so that it realizes little wear. Polyester Thread – Polyester is the most expensive thread because of its tinsel strength and engineering. It is braided and weaved, not twisted. Polyester surpasses nylon and certainly cotton for strength. Additionally it is waxed to shield it from the elements. Edge Creasing - Where possible the edges are creased for appeal but more importantly to assist in sealing out the elements from the edges and ipso facto the rest of the leather in your item. Edge Finishing - Edges are finished with a color that complements your item. But the deeper purpose is to seal out the elements and keep them from penetrating your leather item. The finish is formulated to color and seal. Additionally I add another wax coat on top of the finish and then hand-burnish these edges by hand with hard wood tools to a beautifully sealed finish. This burnishing process creates heat that cures the edge finish to ensure the longest protections. Dimensions (approximate) - Folded 6 3/4" x 3 3/4 " (172mm x 95mm) and 1/2" thick (14mm). Unfolded it is 6 3/4" x 7 1/2" (172mm x 190mm) and 1/4" thick (6mm). This checkbook cover will hold two separate checkbooks opposite of each other and each side has an additional piece of leather to use under your carbon copy checks to stop image transfer so that the image is not transferred to the next check. Guarantee – This item is engineered and custom made with the care of using only the finest materials and workmanship. I ensure this by not shipping you something I would not personally enjoy or have confidence in. This item is not imported and then passed off as handmade. This is not a resale.
